In Hebrew, the word for charity, "Tzedakah," - צדקה  means far more than just that. Charity implies kindness performed out the goodness of one’s heart, but which is by no means obligatory. Tzedakah, on the other hand, means, "doing right," implying an obligation to help others - financially, materially, spiritually and in any way possible.

A tzedakah box is a receptacle for collecting money that is designated for charity.

This Tzedakah box is one of Itzhak Luvaton's Artwork. Itzhak Luvaton is a Jewish artist, who creates unique Judaica art combined with various materials. He combines the old Jewish tradition with up-to-date design.

This Tzedakah box is made of Cherry wood and Sterling Silver. It is shaped like a mailbox and has on its sides the Seven Species of Israel. (The seven species listed are (Deut 8:8):  wheat, barley, grape, fig, pomegranates, olive, and date). On the front is a plaque with the words "V'Ahavta L'Reicha Kamocha" - ואהבת לרעך כמוך meaning: "you shall love your neighbor as yourself" (Leviticus 19:17).

Encased in clear Lucite, the "shin" is raised above the scenic background giving a two dimensional effect. Beneath is a vision of the beauty of Israel. An elegant peacock sits comfortably and peacefully, perched on soft rustic branches which seem to be moving in the breezes, interspersed with delicate pomegranates, suspended here and there. Measuring 6" and  1/2 " x 1 and 1/2" the sleek holder projects out with the mezuzah "klaf" safely enclosed  in its own case beneath.   This Israel scene is also available in 4 and 1/2" x 1/2" size in a more compact version.

One of the most powerful religious symbols is the circle and the sphere. The sphere (a 3D circle) symbolizes completeness, unity, equality, and acceptance. It also represents time with the movement of the day and the 360 degrees. No point of the sphere is nearer or farther from the center than any other point on the sphere.

In the  Sphere Collection I used universal symbols (as hearts) and symbols connected to Judaism (Stars of David, Menorah, Dove etc.) to create spheres that represent our unending circle of life.

The spheres can be turned and put any direction wanted.

Surprise Baby Carriage made by Itzhak Luvaton and Samuel Mauriciu

Based on the classic baby carriage models we based our unique design of a miniature 925 sterling silver, hand made Baby Carriage.

The carriage conceals in it Jewish ceremonial tools. When moving the carriage soothing music is played from a hidden music box.

Other Tools concealed in the carriage:

• A Telescopic Kiddush cup.
• An Havdalah candle.
• Zedaka Box that hangs on the carriage handles, and can also be used as a spice box for Havdalah.
• Two medallions hanging on the  carriage sides where the name of the newborn or family can be engraved.
• A fabric quilt that covers the inside of the carriage space.
• A parchment to write the names of the born – to create a family tree.

 The carriage design required planning details in order to make it a unique creation of value, both sustainable and long-term use. The carriage will accompany the newborn from birth to old age and transferred in the family from generation to generation as a value.

Count the Omer with Itzhak Luvaton's New Showcase Design

"You shall count for yourselves seven weeks" Deuteronomy 16:9-10

Bringing together the ancient and the modern, Itzak Luvaton together with Meira Freifeld, , have created an extraordinary showcase to display and Count the Omer, designed to resemble a large, impressive book, each page is headed by the number of the day (1-49). Each page is Giclée printed and hand-gilded with 23 Karat gold leaf.

The pages which look like ancient text are visible through an open window on the face of this modern, majestic blue volume, which stands upright on its own. Using innovative techniques, Luvaton's exclusive design enables you to secure each day's beautiful page in the book's window during the seven week period and safely store each of the 49 pages within this showcase.

Time is marked or counted between holidays as in the period between Passover which celebrates freedom from slavery to Shavuot which celebrates the giving of the 10 commandments to ensure real freedom for all. During this seven week period we traditionally count each day called "Counting the Omer".  (3,00 years ago Jews brought a small amount, an omer, of barley to the Temple in Jerusalem to note each day). Today we recite a blessing and count out the number of the day and the week each day.

At Luvaton Jewish Art  Gallery at the Inbal Hotel in Jerusalem, there is a rich, wide collection of Megilot Esther, hand- made by Itzhak Luvaton.

Each Megillah is set in a handsome, massive holder enabling the Megilah to always be on display in your home or synagogue. The Megillot of Luvaton include traditional and modern themes.

One of the traditional Megillot by Itzhak Luvaton is handmade of warm, variegated rosewood. The heroic Purim saga is engraved on sterling silver panels, along the border of the opened Megilah. Blue glass adds to the aura of the period in Shushan. This contrasts with the ornate gold palace Megilah, reminiscent of Queen Esther's life, with a pictorial of the history engraved in the gold.

Made by silversmith and artist, Itzhak Luvaton, the Purim Grogger will make its predictable noise when the name of Hamen is mentioned during the reading of the Megilah on Purim.

During the year the Purim Grogger will be admired for its clean lines crafted from real maple wood with attention to detail seen in the sterling silver pictorial panels, which decorate the head of the Grogger. Two panels depict major parts of the struggle of Queen Esther and Mordechai to save the Jewish people. On a third panel, the sterling silver is engraved with fish, the symbol of Adar, the month of Purim.

With Izhak's innovative design, the Megillah scroll can be turned while on display to see different parts of our illustrious history.  Written in beautiful Hebrew lettering, the script is set amongst colorful, hand painted portrayals of the time period in Shushan. Like Queen Esther herself, this work of art combines beauty and strength, simplicity and elegance. The Megillah is exact and easy to read.  Measuring 23" x 33", the clear Megillah case has sharp geometric lines making a nice contrast to the floral decorated columns in subtle colors which frame each 'Hamelech" section.. The scroll itself is made of fine parchment. The handles on which the Megillah is rolled and held open are the deep color of their natural, rich, Beech wood, and are delicately crowned in sterling silver. This is a new model  of a Yacht we built based on the SunSeeker.
It is hand made, all Sterling Silver.
But it is not just a Yacht - it is also a Channukia!
The sides open and hold 4 candles each side, and the 'Shamash' is on the boat.

New Kiddush Cups - Hammered and Engraved with Unique Topics

Itzhak is now making new Kiddush Cups. The cups are hammered with a classic design, and engraved in special "windows" with various subjects, such as Jerusalem, the three 'Regalim', Holy sites in Israel: Kever Rachel, Kotel Maaravi, Initials and others. The subjects can also be ordered by the customeres.

The Kiddush cup in the image has engraved  a view of Jerusalem and the saying:
"Next Year in Jerusalem" - "לשנה הבאה בירושלים"

Yahrzeit Candle Holder

"נר אלוקים נשמת אדם" (משלי כ:כז)

"The spirit of man is the lamp of the LORD" (Proverbs 20,27)

A Yahrzeit candle is a widely practiced custom, where mourners light a Yahrzeit candle that burns for 24 hours.

I designed a special holder for the Yahrzeit candle – that is flex and can fit different kinds of candles. On it is written the phrase: "נר אלוקים נשמת אדם"

The Yahrzeit holder is made of Anodized Aluminum in 2 different designs, and comes in 4 color: silver-gray, gold, red and blue.

Chains of Silver - New Exhibition at the Harry Oppenheimer Diamond Museum

We're taking part in a new exhibition at the Harry Oppenheimer Diamond Museum, Ramat-Gan, together with Mauriciu Samuel - Chains of Silver.

We present there our big Silver pieces: like the Ferris Whell, the Merkava Mitzvah Tank, The Harlley Davidson Menorah motorcycle and many more.

The exhibition will be open from 'Hol Hamoed' Pessach till June2012.

A Challah Plate

"....המוציא לחם מן הארץ"

After blessing on the Challah's on Shabbat, The challah pieces are passed around the table to all diners. What is more natural than passing around the Challah bread in a plate that looks like a home baked Challah!

This new Challah plate I designed looks like a Challah and when turned can be used as a plate.

It is hand made of copper, silver plated on the outside and gold plated on the inside.

A new salt container for Shabbat

וְכָל קָרְבַּן מִנְחָתְךָ בַּמֶּלַח תִּמְלָח וְלֹא תַשְׁבִּית מֶלַח בְּרִית אֱ-לֹהֶיךָ מֵעַל מִנְחָתֶךָ, עַל כָּל קָרְבָּנְךָ תַּקְרִיב מֶלַח (ויק' ב: יג)

"And every meal-offering of thine shalt thou season with salt; neither shalt thou suffer the salt of the covenant of thy God to be lacking from thy meal-offering; with all thy offerings thou shalt offer salt." (Leviticus 2,13)

This phrase shows the connection between the Altar and salt.

Following this phrase, I built a structure that resembles the Altar that was in the Holy Temple for the use of holding the salt during the Shabbat.

This salt holder is silver plated with a plexiglass container for the salt. It can aslo be gold plated. Special orders can be made in silver.
